Public Speaking Toolkit

Public speaking is a BIG part of Teen Leadership!

This section is here to help you understand how to organize and present your speeches in class.  Preparation is a key to being a confident speaker and prevents nerves and/or a lack of knowledge that can really hamper our performance.

PVLEGS is how you deliver your message.  In his book, Real Leaders Don't Do PowerPoint, Chris Witt said, "Knowledge isn't power; communicating knowledge is."  What you say is just as important as how you say it.  PVLEGS builds on concepts learned in Teen Leadership.  PVLEGS is critical as you begin speaking about ideas that have the power to land you a dream job, change the way people think and act and make a difference in the world.

ACOVA covers the preparatory tasks of building a speech. In Teen Leadeship, you will be scored on all areas EXCEPT the VISUAL AID.   ACOVA takes what you have learned as students at the MLC and wraps it into a nifty acronym perfectly sized for the task. Each student will be required to submit their ACOVA Content and Organization sheet as well as the written speech they plan to deliver.
